Design your own moving model using cams and linkages. It could be a nodding dog wagging his tail, an alien monster waving his arms or what ever your imagination wants to make it. After exploring how cams and linkages work you will use your discoveries to build a matchbox sized model which turns rotary motion into linear motion, before decorating it using scrap & recycled materials.

At the Making Place we believe the best way to understand science & engineering is by making models, watching demonstrations and doing experiments yourself (and in groups) with parents & children investigating together. Every child will get to make something/s to take away, which demonstrate and acts as a reminder of the engineering principles we cover during the workshop.

This workshop requires a certain level of dexterity and even older children and adults may need help to get their models working properly. If you need to bring your younger children along to a workshop for older siblings, please note you will still need to purchase a ticket for them and be aware that you may have to build everything for them.

Friday 1 November (Saturday’s workshops have been cancelled)
