Magnificent machines, crazy contraptions and cutting-edge ideas. An amazing STEM skills and design workshop for young inventors aged 10+ – brought to you by MakerClub.

In this five-day workshop, which takes place over February half term, makers will learn new skills with expert tuition from the world’s #1 young inventors club – and put these skills into practice to create a wacky and original Rube Goldberg machine!

In case you need reminding, a Rube Goldberg machine is a deliberately complex contraption in which a series of devices that perform simple tasks are linked together to produce a domino effect in which activating one device triggers the next device in the sequence.

The workshop includes 3D design, electronics, mechanical engineering, programming and more!

Participants will design, experiment, build and programme a new mechanism each day, carrying out simple tasks in creative and complicated ways. Each team will create multiple mechanisms, combining in the end to create one huge Mad Machine.

Our young inventors will:

  • Learn what a Rube Goldberg machine is
  • Understand a range of simple machines and how they work
  • Use computer aided design (CAD) software for 3D printing and laser cutting
  • Work scientifically to carry out experiments
  • Use design processes to prototype and iterate mechanisms
  • Make mechanisms move using electronics and programming
  • Use the MakerClub platform and hardware

Includes all materials and tuition, a final day unveiling event, video diary, some free MakerClub merch and exclusive MakerClub membership offers, plus a month’s FREE ACCESS to the amazing MakerClub online platform.

MakerClub is a network of after-school clubs and workshops teaching kids how to be inventors. Expert tutors and a fantastic learning platform deliver an unparalleled STEM skills curriculum to kids aged 8–14. Using 3D printing and design, prototyping, engineering, coding, laser-cutting and more, our young inventors learn to apply cutting-edge tech to real work problems in fun and creative ways … giving them all they need to make their own world.
