Come and help AQUILA children’s magazine and Ivy Kids celebrate the publication of The Book of Big Science Ideas, AND contribute to the conversation about climate change by helping us make a fossil free Brighton out of cardboard!

What if we had to rebuild Brighton without reliance on fossil fuels? What will we do in a world without coal, oil and gas? How will our surroundings look and feel different?

This session is about using imagination and play to model a post-carbon city. Will we turn all the roads into cycle paths, flanked with orchards and other urban farm spaces? Will we re-employ animals to transport goods in and out of the centre? Or will we prefer to build canals instead, and float things around by solar-powered raft? Where will we buy our socks? What will we do with ALL THE PLASTIC (can we turn it into socks?)

Ultimately, it’s up to all of us to answer all of these questions, so let’s start where all the best engineers and designers start: with a giant play session!

This is a play priority workshop. Your job is to come prepared to make mistakes and set your imagination free. We’ve got cardboard, tape, scissors and lots of art materials – play workers will be on-hand to encourage fun, as well as adherence to all the usual safety rules, but the rest is up to you. This session has been designed to foster play, civic engagement, community pride, quality family time and the consideration of some BIG IDEAS, all through the fun of art making. What will you build?

Ages 7+ welcome (we will be using scissors). Sessions last 45 mins.

Entrance is free, but you will need to register for a ticket HERE. This is a family workshop so parents are expected to stay and join in the fun!
