Science & Business

The Festival costs £35,000 to run, split evenly between production costs, venue hire, administration fees and publicity. We keep entry prices as low as possible, so our ticket income is no more than £15,000. Public funding comes to £10,000, and Sussex businesses make up the difference with a vital £10,000, for which we are very grateful. Sussex businesses have supported the Festival right from the earliest days. We hope we are fulfilling our side of the bargain; giving everyone, toddler to totterer, more understanding of what science is and what it does.

Inspirational breakfasts are run regularly by Sussex Enterprise and the Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce. Although the words 'inspirational' and 'breakfast' don't normally sit easily together, these events are lively ways to meet others in the business community.

For the Festival we have two Inspirational Breakfasts with a science theme, from Sussex Enterprise and the Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce. As Robert Winston points out, scientific progress is a two-edged sword; there's often a down side. Industrialization caused global warming. Superabundance causes super-waste.

windmillEvery year we spend January taking special science workshops to Key Stage three students in Schools throughout Sussex. This year they are working on Incredible machines. Last year they created new designs of wind turbine. Their creations were extraordinary. View them here and be amazed.
