On the one night every four years when, traditionally, a woman can ask her man to marry her, we will be hosting an evening dedicated to unravelling some of the psychology and some of the chemistry behind love.

THE BODY LANGUAGE OF DATING

Body language expert and Big Brother commentator Dr Harry Witchel

Do first impressions really determine what people think of you? Non-verbal communication is so much of the story about what happens when people go on a date, yet most people cannot put their finger on exactly how it makes things go right or wrong. In this interactive session Dr Harry Witchel of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School demonstrates the power of the subtle movements of rapport as well as the simple movements that turn a chat up line into a friendly conversation. By being able to transmit the signals you want, you can spend more time with the people you want and make the conversations more fun.

SATURDAY NIGHT SCIENCE

The chemistry of love - alcohol, hormones and condom technology.

Can reaction dynamics explain that boy meets girl moment? Can studying spectroscopy turn you into a John Travolta on the dance floor? Can Chemistry help you pull? Come along to this scientific guide to a night out on the town and find out where you have been going wrong. Including the latest in condom science.

A hands-on activity if you strike lucky.

Warning – CONTAINS NUTS Graeme Jones is a chemical ecologist at Keele University who has a passion for public science. He was awarded a NESTA Dreamtime Fellowship to develop his talents as a science entertainer.
