Networking opportunities, plus experts on sustainable energy, transport, architecture, food and everyday ways to be environmentally friendly, giving short talks and answering questions. There will be no lecturing, just useful, practical suggestions.Speakers include: THE EVERYDAY ACTIVIST - Michael Norton, OBE, has changed the face of social innovation in Great Britain. Over the past thirty years, Michael has created several highly successful socially progressive programmes, which have affected thousands of lives all over the country. Tonight he gives a practical and easy-to-follow action plan for anyone who wants to make a difference. ENERGY - Professor Jim Skea, OBE, Research Director of the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC). Jim also spent six years as Director of the Policy Studies Institute, during this time, he was instrumental in launching the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP), an action and advisory group bringing together industry, academia, NGOs and Government departments. FOOD - Sue Dibb from the Sustainable Development Commission, a government advisory body leads a team promoting sustainable food consumption and production. This includes advising supermarkets. TRANSPORT - Rana Imam of UCL. How the London Bourough of Camden took action to make public transport more user-friendly, using AUNT SUE (Accessibility and User Needs in Transport for Sustainable Urban Environments). HOUSING - Mischa Hewitt is the project manager of the award winning Earthship Brighton project, a director of the Low Carbon Trust and a director of the Sussex based green building specialist company Earthwise Construction. The Energy Efficiency Advice Centre for East Sussex and Surrey are funded by the Energy Saving Trust to provide impartial advice about energy efficiency and renewable technologies and also to promote discounts and grant schemes for these measures. They will be advising people how they can save energy and reduce their utility bills by adopting some simple energy saving actions. |
